USA Tax Filing Amnesty Deadline Extended for Non-Filers

Due to the potential impact of Hurricane Irene, the IRS has extended the due date for USA Tax Filing Amnesty offshore voluntary disclosure initiative (OVDI) requests until Sept. 9, 2011. For those taxpayers who have not yet submitted their request and any documents, they must take action by Sept. 9, 2011.

The previous deadline was August 31st, 2011.

If you are a US citizen and now realized that you have to file your USA tax return, but still on the fence, you still have time to file your USA tax return and FBAR report without any severe penalties and fines.

We just finished helping many US Citizens in Vancouver, Canada filing their USA tax returns and FBAR report. We had to turn away some US citizens because of our workload and the previous filing deadline of August 31st, 2011. With the extended deadline, we are in a situation now, to help few more US Citizens living in Canada and Vancouver to comply with US tax laws by September 9, 2011.

If you did not file your USA tax return, after moving into Canada, simply claiming ignorance, that you did not know, is not going to fly with IRS. If you file before the deadline of September 9, 2011 you will get amnesty from penalty and fines. And if you do not file your tax return, IRS will clamp on non reporters in full force. US Treasury is running low in revenue and they need as many tax payer to pay tax as possible.

If you think that IRS will not be able to locate you, you should know the new Canadian Banking rule, becoming effective from January 1st, 2012. According to the rule, all Canadians will be asked to provide US citizenship information, if they are operating a bank account in Canada. All Canadian Banks will report all US Citizen account holder banking, investment information to the IRS, every year.
